Yesterday, I finally had the chance to try this sport. Initially I want to try target shooting, but considering the fees here in SG for that sport, I think archery was the safer, cheaper alternative. Of course, I would still definitely try it when I go back home this week (Weeee!).
Archery is an art, practice, or skill of shooting using bows and arrows. It can be traced back through history as a weapon of war or battles. And if you are a fan of the Hunger Games, then you know that this is the weapon of expertise of the heroine Katniss Everdeen 🙂
I saw my friend’s FB profile pic of him in an act of shooting with a bow and arrow and I immediately asked him where he tried it. After asking around, I was able to find out the fees for a round of archery session. I found DM Archery online and called the contact number for more details. Basically, there are three kinds of packages but for beginners, the best would be the free and easy, unlimited arrows for an hour for S$15, and S$10 for 30 minutes. They also offer deals from deal.com.sg from time to time but the regular fee is not so bad already.
DM archery is located in Orchid Country Club, 1 Orchid Club Road, Orchid Country Club, Singapore 769162. There is a shuttle bus to and fro Yishun Mrt Station, near the taxi stand. I booked first before we came because Daniel specifically told me that when I called in for information. Before starting, the instructors will give a run through of the do’s and don’ts as well as how to use the bow/arrow, the correct position and posture. We were given 5 arrows each, and we can choose any of the bows available. After firing the 5 arrows, everyone must wait until all is done, then the last one to finish will shout CLEAR so that everyone can go and retrieve their respective arrows. They also told us the scoring system so we can keep score if we want a little competition. The bulls eye (yellow) is 10 points, with decreasing scores by two as you go farther from the center. I had a great first few rounds, that the instructor was teasing that it was definitely not my first time because I was good with it.
After a while, I got tired, especially in my left arm, the one holding the bow. We took a pattern of 3 rounds then rest since it was surprisingly soooo tiring. haha. I got to change boards 3 times also, but I think my first one was the best.
