Japan Diaries: Dotonburi & Shinsaibashi

Osaka was the first and final stop of our Japan trip. After another shinkansen ride from Nagoya to Shin-Osaka, we took the Midosuji subway Line to Dobutsuenmae Station, which is the nearest station to our hotel, Hotel Chuo. A glitch on this subway station is that there was no elevator! In short, 3 flights of stairs with heavy luggage. Anyways, after leaving our bags in the hotel for storage, we were starving and upon one of the guests recommendation, we made our way to Osaka’s food haven, Dotonburi.

Dotonburi

Dotonburi is definitely one of the must-go places in Osaka. Once well-known asΒ a theater district, it is now a popular nightlife and entertainment area characterized by its eccentric atmosphere and large illuminated billboards.

Habitat Cafe

Hello lovelies!

I don’t normally do restaurant reviews, and I’m not planning on starting now, so this is what I’m going to do. Once in a while I would blog about restaurants or cafes that I have tried, but only because these are the ones I would definitely go back to again and again, if I have a chance to. It could be the ambiance, the food, the staff or the price, these are the factors I actually consider in saying that I love a certain hangout place. Now that I have that out of the way, shall we begin? πŸ™‚

Habitat Cafe is a little cafe found in Upper Thompson Road, along the lines of shops that can be found there. This cafe definitely stands out among its competition, and given all the reviews I’ve read about it, it really is worth a try. I’m not sure if reservations can be done but be prepared to wait for a while outside because this place could be crowded all the time. The interior is quite small, so the tables are a bit too near each other, but nevertheless, it was still a nice place to hang out and have simple conversations with friends over coffee and goood food. Oh and did I mention the food? hahaha. I’m fairly easy to please when it comes to food, and theirs came through. One day I came here alone while waiting for my friends to attend a catholic mass, I ordered their iced flavoured coffee (tiramisu) and the Truffle fries. Β This started my awareness of such a great invention such as truffle fries. I’ve tried it once before in PS Cafe but I wasn’t paying too much on what I was eating then. Anyways, their serving is enough for 2-3 persons, and I finished it all by myself. haha.. And the price is probably one of the cheapest out there for truffle fries at S$8. Β It was good enough for me that the truffle taste is not too overwhelming but it wasn’t lacking either. As for the coffee, I like that it was not too sweet or too bitter, with a hint of the tiramisu taste. It’s probably better to capture the taste when served hot but I really prefer iced coffees.

The second time I came here was with my coffee-addict friend, and this time around we also tried their Wholemeal BLT. Not so much to gush about, though Β it was nice enough to be shared. The food selection is not too much, but pretty straight forward, and so far I haven’t been disappointed yet. The next time I come I would definitely try the cakes and their brunch menu is something to look forward to. I hope they do consider on moving to a much bigger space or opening a new branch. πŸ™‚
