11/2012 Quote of the month

Blue-Like-Jazz3“  I will give you this, my love, and I will not bargain or barter any longer.  I will love you, as sure as He has loved me.  I will discover what I can discover and though you remain a mystery, save God’s own knowledge, what I disclose of you I will keep in the warmest chamber of my heart, the very chamber where God has stowed Himself in me.  And I will do this to my death, and to death it may bring me.  I will love you like God, because of God, mighted by the power of God.  I will stop expecting your love, demanding you love, trading for your love, gaming for your love.  I will simply love.  I am giving myself to you, and tomorrow I will do it again.  I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again.

God risked Himself on me.  I will risk myself on you.  And together, we will learn to love, and perhaps then, and only then, understand this gravity that drew Him, unto us.”
―    Donald Miller,    Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality

Since I’m treating this blog as a journal of sorts, I would like to (hopefully constantly) post a quote of the month from various christian authors that anyone can easily relate to.

I first saw this quote from a youtube video shared on Facebook about a couple about to get married.  In the video they shared how God’s hand was there in creating their beautiful love story.  It’s not merely the ‘kilig’ of it all that got me, it’s how amazing it is how God brings people together in the most unexpected ways.

Having a Coke with You

cokeHaving a Coke with You

is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona
partly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastian
partly because of my love for you,
partly because of your love for yoghurt
partly because of the fluorescent orange tulips around the birches
partly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before people and statuary
it is hard to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as still as solemn as unpleasantly definitive as statuary
when right in front of it in the warm New York 4 o’clock light we are drifting back and forth between each other like a tree breathing through its spectacles
and the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at all, just paint
you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did them

I look at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick
which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first time
and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism
just as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase or at a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow me
and what good does all the research of the Impressionists do them when they never got the right person to stand near the tree when the sun sank or for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefully as the horse

it seems they were all cheated of some marvelous experience which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I am telling you about it

by Frank O’Hara

I first heard this poem in the movie “Beastly” wherein the hero was reading an excerpt to the heroine.  I don’t know how to interpret poetry, but I just know this is one romantic gesture.  What can I do, I’m a sucker for anything romantic? :p

Archie Andrews gets married!

Almost all of us have read, at one point or another, an Archie comics. Whether or not it’s a subscription or just past time, everyone knows the main characters of this comics such as Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica. The story revolves mainly around the love triangle between Archie, Betty and Veronica. Archie comics is 65 years old already and now it is ready to release it’s 600’th issue:

A lot of speculation has been circulating that it would be Veronica who he would choose. But I’d rather he choose Betty, probably because of her down-to-earth personality and her loyalty to Archie. Oh well, let’s just wait for the issue. 🙂
